CryoStore Newsletter

March 2026 | Issue No. 3

Effective dissemination of research results is a core priority of the CryoStore consortium. Presentations at national and international conferences will not only increase the awareness of the scientific community to CryoStore and our results but also give rise to meaningful contacts and networking opportunities for the CryoStore Doctoral Candidates (DCs).

Upcoming events for the CryoStore Doctoral Candidates include ICAR 2026, Spermatology 2026, CYRO2026, SLTB2026, Cold in Biology and Medicine 2026 and more.✨

📣Key dissemination events in 2025

CryoStore DC Abdul-Rashid Iddi presenting at Cold in Biology and Medicine 2025

Cold in Biology and Medicine 2025: Abdul-Rashid Iddi presented results on the confocal microscopic imaging of sperm cells: a step toward optimized directional freezing protocol.Oleksandra Hubenia presented results on the design of a fluidic chamber for the analysis of diffusion CPA/VA in a single cell using RAMAN microscopy and received the first-place award for best oral presentation.🥇

EPIMAR 2025: Mafalda Almeida presented a poster on the strategy to investigate epigenetic alterations after sperm cryopreservation in fish and their consequences for the progeny. Read more ❄️

It was a great opportunity to present my work, meet other researchers, and get a taste of the conference world. I really enjoyed listening to all the talks. Honestly, I thought I’d be most interested in the ones under “Epigenetics in Aquatic Resources Management”, since it felt closest to my background in marine biology. But surprisingly, I found myself really engaged with the talks in “Developmental and Comparative Epigenetics.” That was a nice surprise!

I saw some really great presentations from researchers that I’ll definitely keep in mind for the future. Watching the talks was also useful in a very practical way: I got new ideas for analyzing data, different ways to present results and how to structure and deliver a presentation.
— Mafalda Almeida

ERFP Small Ruminant Semen Cryopreservation Workshop: Linde Rombaut presented her project on the impact of egg yolk- and commercial liposome-based extenders on fresh and frozen-thawed ram sperm. Read more ❄️

It was a truly valuable experience, full of insightful discussions, new perspectives, and good connections.

One of the highlights of this workshop was the continuous exchange of ideas, not just during the sessions, but also over coffee breaks, lunch, and dinner. The small group size really made it easy to connect with everyone, and the conversations felt productive.

CRYO2025: Oleksandra Hubenia and Abdul-Rashid Iddi helped organize the CRYO2025 event for the Society of Cryobiology in Hannover 22-25 July 2025.

Engaging with such a brilliant and passionate community was both refreshing and motivating. I look forward to future collaborations, deeper scientific exchanges, and contributing to the exciting innovations in the field of cryobiology and reproductive biotechnology.
— Abdul-Rashid Iddi

Joint 28th Annual ESDAR Conference and 3rd ECAR Symposium: Paulina Pyrek presented results on the impact of rapid warming on mitochondrial functionality and DNA integrity of vitrified bovine oocytes and Linde Rombaut the results on the impact of egg yolk- and commercial liposome-based extenders on fresh and frozen-thawed ram sperm. I spent five unforgettable days in Varna, surrounded by inspiring researchers, world-class lectures, and an amazing scientific atmosphere. Not only did I gain valuable knowledge, but I also had the chance to network with many brilliant and kind people. One of the biggest highlights for me was presenting the results from my first experiment within the CryoStore Project. I came back full of ideas, motivation, and excitement, and I am looking forward to the next editions!
— Paulina Pyrek
The conference was a fantastic opportunity to attend inspiring keynote lectures, join workshops, network, and exchange ideas with fellow researchers in my favorite field of reproduction.
— Linde Rombaut

SLTB2025: Oleksandra Hubenia and Abdul-Rashid Iddi played a big part of the 61st Meeting of the Society for Low Temperature Biology (SLTB) and presented posters of their results. Oleksandra received the first-place award for her poster presentation.🥇

Learned about new strategies in cryopreservation, made new contacts, discussed countless opportunities for collaborations, and gained experience in chairing the biobanking section and poster presentation to engage the audience - all in three days! Next time more!
— Oleksandra Hubenia

8èmes Journées Techniques Inter Filières du SYSAAF: Firouzeh Sadeghzadeh presented results on understanding how transplanted primordial germ cells (PGCs) interact and compete with the host’s own germ cells — a crucial step for improving germline transmission efficiency in genetic conservation programs. Read more ❄️

Participating in this conference was a great opportunity to share ideas, learn from colleagues working on diverse species, and gain feedback that will help refine the next stages of my research.
